Pitcairn Island 2014 Fashion Diamond Engagement Ring.

Ancient Traditions
Engagement rings without diamonds, though, have been around for millennia. The ancient Egyptians gave them; the Romans did too, either those aforementioned iron rings or rings with a small key attached, (again leaving it conveniently vague whether the key symbolized a husband giving his wife access to his treasure or his total control over her). However, even the custom of giving engagement rings disappeared sometime in the Dark Ages. It was only revived in Europe in the 13th century, two hundred years before Maximilian added that diamond.
